The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has said the ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja’s satellite towns will serve as a major selling point for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike stated this on Thursday in Abuja while inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects, stressing that the Tinubu administration had expanded infrastructure development beyond the city centre to communities in the satellite towns.
He said the projects were designed to improve connectivity between satellite communities and the city centre while addressing longstanding infrastructure deficits in the territory.
According to the minister, the Apo-Karshi Road, originally awarded in 2010, experienced prolonged delays under the former contractor before the FCT Administration revoked the contract and re-awarded it to SCC.
He said SCC had assured the administration that the Apo-Karshi Road would be completed and handed over by November 2026.
The Minister also disclosed that the contractor handling the Bwari-Kubwa Road had committed to completing and handing over the project by December 30, 2026. Reports from the inspection also indicate that work on the Bwari-Kubwa project is expected to intensify as the rainy season eases.
Wike described the projects as evidence of what he called a new approach to infrastructure delivery under the Tinubu administration, with development extending from Abuja’s city centre to satellite towns.
He said the administration had initially targeted the commissioning of 10 projects but that the number was expected to exceed the target.
“As the President said, ‘Take it for your Christmas and your New Year gift to the people of FCT,’” he added.
Wike said the performance of any government could be measured by the impact of its projects on citizens, particularly where such interventions addressed pressing needs.
He argued that residents who could see and benefit from improved infrastructure would have a basis for assessing the performance of the administration.
“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them stories. But we have not come with stories; we have come with facts, verifiable facts. We told them we will do this one, we have done it,” Wike said.
The Minister urged residents to participate in the electoral process and vote for candidates they believed had contributed positively to their communities.
He also expressed confidence in Tinubu and other candidates he identified, including Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and former Bwari Area Council Chairman, John Gabaya.
Wike maintained that the 2027 election would give residents an opportunity to assess the performance of political leaders and determine the quality of representation they wanted.
