FCT Capital Budget Hits 60% as Projects Transform Abuja — Wike

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget has reached 60 per cent, as major infrastructure projects continue to transform Abuja.

Wike disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen after inspecting key ongoing road and urban development projects across the nation’s capital.

The projects inspected included Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III; Arterial Road SI, from Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District; Collector Road C2 in Life Camp to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way); and Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.

The minister also inspected the ongoing remodelling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course.

He emphasized that the scale and pace of infrastructure development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration had redefined infrastructure delivery in the FCT.

“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” Wike said.

According to him, the projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving connectivity and opening up new areas for development across the territory.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, particularly on Arterial Road N16, describing the project as a major infrastructure landmark for Abuja.

Wike said the project had presented significant construction challenges because of the difficult terrain and extensive bridge works involved.

He, however, said the contractor had assured the FCT Administration that the project would be completed by the first week of January.

“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” Wike said.

Furthermore, the minister

said that  the ongoing renovation of the IBB Golf Course  would be completed and fully operational by November.

He said  the renovated golf course would be positioned to host major tournaments and improve the sporting and recreational profile of the capital.
