The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other relevant stakeholders to strictly enforce approved Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) entry protocols at all designated points of entry into Nigeria.
The directive was contained in a circular dated October 22, 2026, signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollum , on behalf of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate.
The Ministry said the directive followed concerns raised by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) over reported non-compliance with government-approved Ebola entry protocols.
It called for consistent and non-discriminatory enforcement of screening, health declaration, surveillance and other entry requirements to prevent cross-border transmission and protect public health and national security.
The Ministry also directed relevant institutions to strengthen coordination and information-sharing, promptly report breaches of the protocols, support enforcement officials and establish effective monitoring and accountability mechanisms.
It warned against undue interference with personnel responsible for enforcing the measures and urged all concerned MDAs to immediately circulate the advisory to their departments, field offices and personnel.
The Ministry stressed the need to address identified lapses promptly and sustain compliance with the approved protocols to strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness against potential public health threats.
